MAPS

Designer Steven Shailer hung an overscale circa-1734 parchment-paper map of Paris in his compact apartment in Manhattan's West Village; he found it in a dealer's stall at the Marché aux Puces when he was a college student studying abroad.

To add some local charm to the crisp white walls of his East Hampton house, interior designer Robert Stilin hung a pair of vintage Long Island maps, purchased from Nellie's of Amagansett, above an oak-and-metal bench from R. E. Steele Antiques.
